What Does the 2017 XE Bring to the Table?
The 2017 XE is a five-passenger luxury sport sedan built on an all-new chassis. The new lightweight construction used this time around is called "aluminum extensive" construction, meaning high grade aluminum makes up to 75% of its overall structure to keep it light, while not sacrificing safety. It's a step in line with Jaguar's back to the drawing board philosophy this time around with its D-segment sedan. And the same can be said of the new engine designs.
Powertrains include a truly admirable 280-hp turbo four, a 340-hp supercharged V-6 for those who need a bit more grunt in their daily commute, and a more practical 180-hp turbodiesel, all with an eight-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard and AWD is optional.
The 2017 XE also drives like a Jaguar first and a sedan second, an important distinction in a market segment flooded with 3 Series' and A4's. Looking and handling like a Jaguar definitely sets the XE apart from the pack.
The interior appears much inspired by clean, minimalist function - simplicity leading to sophistication. Jaguar's InControl multimedia system promises richer graphics and faster response times. This touchscreen infotainment system is equipped with an 8-inch monitor in standard form, and lets the driver access a sat/nav system, stereo, and Bluetooth connectivity.
XE's other tech conveniences will include Bluetooth audio streaming, smartphone app integration, a WiFi hotspot, and a premium Meridian audio system.
Embracing the Future from Top to Bottom
Jaguar has a long tradition of excellence and pride. But in a field with so many competitors, there needs to be a way to bring that British stoicism to bear and also find ways to feel fresh and exciting. The 2017 Jaguar XE sets out to do that with some fancy engineering and forward thinking attitudes, ultimately creating a luxury sedan worth getting truly excited about.
